越南18日有民众号召在全国22个省市举行反华示威游行，首都河内和胡志明市，早上都有小规模的群众聚集，但随即被警方驱离。法广中文网称，尽管越南总理阮晋勇早前已透过手机短信，要求民众不要参加非法的示威游行，又下令公安部及地方领导，要维持社会秩序，但据香港传媒派往越南的记者18日报导，首都河内和胡志明市，早上都有小规模的群众聚集，但随即被警方驱离。
在此同时，中国政府派出的医疗包机，在河静省接载受到重伤的16名中国公民，已在北京时间18日清晨5时许飞抵成都双流机场。中方18日会派5艘船到越南，接侨民回国，第一艘船18日晚大约午夜抵达。在连日的骚乱中，至少有两名中国公民死亡，超过100人受伤。
有媒体称，在首都河内和南部胡志明市，部分示威者已收到号召上街的手机短讯，拟兵分三路出发，游行至中国驻越大使馆集合抗议。中国驻越大使馆外观察，多名警察及政府人员已设置数十个铁马封锁使馆外面的马路，严阵以待。
不过由于越南当局已经严阵以待，18日街头所见聚集的群众，规模不大，而且很快就被警方驱散。
在胡志明市，数百名身穿警服或便服的越南安全人员在中国大使馆前以及首都的主要街道巡逻。越南当局同时派出大批警力在其它一些大城市巡逻。
一些活动分子通过博客向外界表示，他们中的不少人遭到越南警方拘捕，更多的示威者被阻挡在家中不能出去。
越南《青年报》引述当地工会领袖表示，有民众收到手机短讯，声称参与游行可获约110港元报酬，还提醒民众带同小童上街，这样警察便不会阻止游行。早前台湾驻越南代表处搜集网上资料，整理出越南至少18个省市18日将有游行，当中最少5个大城市已有具体游行路线，包括河内、胡志明、岘港、巴地头顿及清化省。
另据德国媒体引述美联社的消息，一些抗议者表示，他们18日被当局禁止出行。“我认为最好允许民众抗议，”经常参与反华示威的抗议者La Viet Dung表示。他透露警察17日晚间要求他不要参与示威活动。“他们说会阻止民众抗议，因为担心出现极端行为和暴力，但这并不符合逻辑。”
德国媒体称，河内出手压制，越南反华示威告一段落。
中国官方指责越南当局暗中放纵，结果造成大规模骚乱。中方星期天宣布，鉴于气氛恶劣，决定暂停执行双边交流。17日越南警方收到了总理下达的“采取一切必要措施，阻止可能扰乱公共秩序的非法游行”的指令。
