要想说好英语语音,就要有英语语音的一些基本知识。 1.关于语音的几个概念
1)字母:语言的书写形式。元音字母a, e, i(y), o, u, 2)音标:词的语音形式。
3)音素:音的最小的单位。英语中有48音素。
4)音节:由元音和辅音构成的发音单位。apˈple, stuˈdent, teaˈcher, underˈstand 5)元音:发音响亮,是乐音;口腔中气流不收阻碍;是构成音节的主要音。英语中有20元音。
6)辅音:发音不响亮,是噪音;口腔中气流受到阻碍;不是构成音节的主要音。英语中有28辅音。
7)开音节:a) 辅音+元音+辅音+e name bike ;b) 辅音+元音 he, go, hi 8)闭音节:a) 辅音+元音+辅音 bad, bed, sit, hot, cup; b)元音+辅音it 9)重读音节:单词中发音特别响亮的音节。
2. 医学英语术语有两大读音规则:一条是常规读音规则,与公共英语大致相同,主要适用于Anglo-Saxon源的亚医学术语;另一条是特殊发音规则,主要适用于希腊与拉丁源医学术语。特殊发音规则包括辅音字母读音、元音字母读音以及音节种类判断三个部分。辅音字母读音主要受希腊语的影响;元音字母读音主要受拉丁语的影响;音节种类判断主要指含两个以上构词形的复合词。
第一节 辅音字母的读音
医学术语中辅音的发音基本与英语单词辅音的发音一样,只有极少数字母及字母组合的发音有些特殊。
1.1单独字母的读音[ˈ]
①c 在a,o,u前发音[k]:cardiac;在e,i,y前,发音[s]: placenta [plə'sentə] ②g 在a,o,u前发音[ɡ]:gastral ['ɡæstrəl];在e,i,y前,发音[d/]:emergency
③x 在词首发音[z]:xanthine['zænθin];其他发音[ks]:axilla [æk'silə]
1.2辅音组合发音
ch,ph 和 rh 是常见的辅音组合,它们常常以一个整体出现在一个词中,它们的发音也与单独的辅音发音关系不大。
①ch [tʃ]:choke[tʃəuk],[k]:chronic[ˈkrɔnik] ②ph [f]: phobia['fəʊbi:ə] ③rh [r]: rhinal['rainl]]
④sch[sk]: schizont [ˈskizɔnt]] , schizoid ['skizɔid] 1.3双辅音中的不发音字母
mn,cn,pn,ps,pt,gn等,在词首时,前一个辅音不发音,在词中时两个辅音都发音。
①mn [n]:mnemonics[nɪˈmɔnɪks]记忆术,[mn]:amnesia[æ mˈni:zɪə]遗忘症 ②cn [n]:cnemial[ˈni:miəl胫,[kn]:gastrocnemius[ɡæstrɔkˈni:miəs]腓肠肌 ③pn [n]:pneumonia[nju:ˈməuniə]肺炎,[pn]:apnea[[' æpni:ə]呼吸暂停 ④ps [s]:psychology[saiˈkɔlədʒi]心理学 ,[ps]:capsule[ˈkæpsju:l] 胶囊 ⑤pt [t]:ptosis['təusis] 下垂症,上睑下垂;[pt]:hemoptysis[hiˈmɔptisis]咳血 ⑥gn [n]:gnathitis [næ'θaitis]颌炎;[gn]:pregnancy['preɡnənsi]]怀孕
其他不发音的双辅音:rh:h不发音,它只是送气音的拼写特征,rhinal['rainl]]鼻的;ph:ph后面紧跟th时,ph不发音 phthisis [ˈθaɪsɪs,] 肺结核。
