摘要：An optical amplifier including an input unit, a polarization maintaining opticalamplifying unit, an exciting unit and an output unit. The input unit enables receiving a firstsignal light in a first polarization state and a second signal light in a second polarizationstate different from the first polarization state. The polarization maintaining opticalamplifying unit includes a polarization maintaining optical amplifying medium enablingreceiving the first and second signal lights with the first and second polarization statesmaintained as they are. The exciting unit provides first and second exiting lights havingpolarization states corresponding to the first and second lights, respectively, so that thepolarization maintaining optical amplifying unit is capable of selectively amplifying thefirst and second signal lights, and the output unit enables receiving the first and secondsignal lights after being amplified by the polarization maintaining optical amplifying unitand outputting the amplified first and second signal lights to a transmission line.
