1、意义的区别：

in case of 防备； 假如； 如果发生；

in the case of 就 ... 来说 在 ... 的情况下

lest  conj.
惟恐；以免；担心。

2、用法的区别：

in case of后跟名词、代词

词汇搭配 in the nature of the case
理所当然地(必然地)...

in the case of后跟名词、代词

词汇搭配 in the very nature of the case
理所当然地,必然地,...

lest和 in case of 同义，但是后跟句子，并且用虚拟语气(should) do

词汇搭配 lest所引导的从句中谓语动词要用虚拟式,即“(should+)动词原形”

in case of “万一，如果······”， 后跟名词、代词，in the case of“至于，说到······” 后跟名词、代词，lest“以防，万一······”，和 in case of 同义。 但是后跟句子，并且用虚拟语气 (should) do。
